TO DARE IS TO DO
BALE FOR TEAM GB

image Harry Redknapp has cleared the way for Gareth Bale to play for Team GB at the 2012 Olympics.
Bale probably in all fairness one of the few players from outside of England who would breeze into the team has already expressed his desire to play next summer although the Welsh F.A weren’t thought to be keen on the idea. But Redknapp has gave his full backing saying ,
“If that’s what he wants then I wouldn’t stop him playing,” Redknapp said. “I think it’s a great honour for anyone to play in an Olympic Games. It must be fantastic, something to look back on for years to come. To play in the Olympic Games in England, I think it would be a great honour for any player. I certainly wouldn’t stop anyone going.”

TOTTENHAM KEAN TO TAKE THE POINTS

Tottenham go into sundays game versus Blackburn Rovers as obvious favourites and rightly so. Ewood park has been a tough ground to go to over the years under Hughes and even Allardyce who Blackburn could be regretting sacking because under Steve Kean they have certainly gone backwards.
Only 1 win in 8 and 5 losses with 18 conceded and only 9 scored many people have them tipped for relegation favourites already. Meanwhile Tottenham are going from strength to strength unbeaten in 9 games in all competitions only conceding 5 in there last 9 competitive fixtures and scoring 16. With Bassong and Kaboul coming through their Europa league game in midweek unscathed Spurs can travel to Ewood Park with two fit centre backs which was a concern for Redknapp through the week , Ledley King the heartbeat of Tottenhams defence will be a huge loss but in Kaboul and Bassong , Benoit and Walker you would think there’s enough class and experience to cope with Blackburns attack. At the other end Tottenham look a different team with Adebayor who is quickly winning round the fans that once despised him , the main headache for Harry will be whether to go with Van der Vaart or Defoe with Adebayor and also how to work his midfield with Sandro and Lennon both coming through midweek games after injury.
Last season at Ewood Park finished 1-0 to Tottenham with a fourth minute goal from Peter Crouch but i think we can expect more goals then that this coming sunday.
Sticking my neck out i will predict a 3-1 win with goals from Van der Vaart , Adebayor and Bale.

Any player coming to Spurs, whether he’s a big signing or just a ground staff boy, must be dedicated to the game and to the club. He must never be satisfied with his last performance, and he must hate losing.
Bill Nicholson
REMEMBERING A LEGEND

imageimage   Five days time sees the 7th anniversary of the sad passing of a Tottenham legend the great Bill Nicholson.
At the age of 16 he was invited to a trial at Tottenham Hotspur on the 16th of march 1936 , after a months trial he was employed as a ground staff boy earning £2 a week. At the age of 18 he signed his first proffesional contract for the club but sadly the outbreak of WWII meant his playing career was put on hold as he joined up with the Durham light infantry. Athough the war cost him most his playing days he never regretted it claiming his time in the army taught him his man-management skills which he used to great affect at the club he loved in later life.
He returned to Spurs in 1946 playing in the first team as a centre back then moving out onto the right. It was playing on the right where he won the league championship in the 1950/51 season.
Nicholson only ever made the one appearence for England against Portugal on May 19th 1951 at Goodison park where incredibly he scored with his first touch after only 19 seconds , but injuries and the form of Billy Wright dogged his International career and as a True Tottenham man declared ” I need to stay fit for Tottenham after all they pay my wages dont they”.
On his retirement he joined the Tottenham backroom staff quickly becoming First team coach in 1955 until 1958 when he was appointed Manager. In his first game incharge Tottenham beat Everton 10-4 but that was just a sign of how good things would become under “Sir” Bill. In less then 2 years he put Tottenham in the history books as Spurs became the first team in the 20th century to win the League championship and FA cup double in 1960/61 dominating there opponents winning there first 11 matches and scoring an impressive 115 goals in 42 games. A year later another FA cup followed and only defeat to Benfica in the European cup semi finals cost them a place in a prestigious European cup final. In the 1962/63 season he once again put Tottenham in the record books becoming the first British team to win a major European trophy beating favourites Athletico Madrid 5-1 in Rotterdam. In ‘67 Tottenham won the FA cup again beating Chelsea to win there third FA cup in 7 years , this was followed by the league cup in ‘71 and ‘73 and the UEFA cup inbetween in ‘72.
In August 1974 Nicholson thought attitudes had changed in football and felt it was no longer the game he used to know and resigned from the club , but was, is and always will be held in high regard by Spurs fans from around the world and he will always be recognised as the man who made Tottenham play the game how it should be played. In total the great Bill Nicholson was at Tottenham Hotspur football club from 1938 to 1974 something that you wont see very often in the modern game. Gone but never ever forgotten R.I.P Bill Nicholson.

DEFOE DEFIES CRITICS

imageJermain Defoe staked his claim for Wayne Rooneys Euro 2012 place with another impressive strike against Newcastle United in sundays 2-2 draw at St.James park.
Many were starting to write Defoe off last season after he only managed to net 4 times in 22 league appearances in the 2010/11 campaign , but Defoe believes he’s in the form of his life this season after netting 5 times in the opening 9 games and he looks well on his way to hitting double figures which rather surprisingly given his reputation as one of Englands most clinical finishers he’s only managed to do 6 times in 15 proffesional league seasons.
The arrival of Emmanuel Adebayor on loan from Manchester City seems to of rejuvenated Defoe , whether its the competition upfront or he just has a good understanding with him but one things for sure he’s certainley enjoying playing with him.

SPURS HOPING TO MAKE IT FIVE IN A ROW

imageHarry redknapp will be praying Tottenham can take all three points in sundays live clash against an in form Newcastle united and make it five wins on the bounce. But Newcastle have been a surprise to everyone this season so far remaining unbeaten and sitting in that fourth spot Tottenham so desperately want.
St James park is a ground that doesnt bode to well for Spurs who have only taken one point from there last five meetings there. Tottenham go into the game with fitness doubts to a handful of key players including Adebayor (hamstring) Van der Vaart (hamstring) Sandro (calf) and Lennon (groin) aswell as long term absentee Tom huddlestone and now Nico krancjar who tore a thigh muscle on international duty with Croatia midweek. But the way Scott parker has settled into the team is a huge bonus and he will play a key role in a midfield battle with Cheick tiote this an area where the game could be won or lost. Newcastle will be oozing confidence, unbeaten and Demba ba hitting form with Yohan cabaye and Cheick tiote bossing the midfield this is never going to be an easy game, but you cant help feel confident after our results against Liverpool and Arsenal with Defoe finding his goalscoring form that deserted him last season and Friedal showing confidence in goal that Gomes only dreams of i think we can go into this game as slight favourites and with Liverpool facing a tough tie against Manchester united this could be a chance to push on for fourth spot.
